Electric Wakeboard and Ski Boats: The State of Play

Eleven electric wakeboard and ski boats and what each builder publishes — battery, power, speed, price. Not one under 8.53 m publishes a range.

The catalogue holds eleven electric boats built or sold for towing riders: eight of them are under 8.53 m and listed on this site, and three are larger and sit on the sister site for boats of 8.53 m and over. The single most useful fact about those eight is an absence — not one of them publishes a range figure, and only three publish a battery capacity.

That silence is the story of the category. Towing is a sustained, high-load duty, and this is the part of the catalogue where the fewest figures are published.

Why towing is a demanding duty for a battery

A range figure is at its most flattering when it comes from light, intermittent duty. A boat idling out of a harbour, running at displacement speed for an afternoon and returning at dusk spends most of its day drawing a small fraction of what its motor can deliver. Battery capacity divided by that modest average gives a number of hours that looks generous, and it is honestly arrived at.

A wake or ski boat does the opposite. Pulling a rider means holding a planing hull at a set speed against the drag of a person in the water, and doing it again the moment the next rider is up. The load is high, it is sustained, and it repeats. There is no drifting section of the run to average the consumption down. The same battery that supports an afternoon of pottering supports a materially shorter session of towing, and no amount of drivetrain efficiency changes the shape of that curve.

This is the context for the battery capacity figures in this section, which are among the largest in the catalogue. What the section does not contain is a single range figure.

The eight electric wakeboard and ski boats listed here

All eight sit in a narrow band between 6.7 m and 7.9 m, from three countries: the United States, Austria and Denmark.

Prices are published for four of the eight: the GS22E from EUR 288,000, the Arc One from EUR 280,000, the Arc Sport from EUR 240,000 and the M 800 Spyder from EUR 194,000. The Laguna 760, the Mana 23, the M 800-R and the M 800 have no published starting price in this catalogue.

Beam is published for exactly one of the eight — the M 800 Spyder, at 2.5 m. Passenger capacity is published for three: the Arc One at 12, the M 800 Spyder at 10 and the M 800 at 8.

What the builders do not publish

It is worth setting out the gaps plainly, because in this category they are the finding rather than an oversight in our research.

  • Range: none of the eight. No builder on this site quotes a range for a wake or ski boat. Three larger models on the sister site do, and they are discussed below.
  • Battery capacity: three of eight. The GS22E at 124 kWh, the Arc Sport at 225.5 kWh and the Arc One at 220 kWh. The four Marian models and the Rand Mana 23 publish none.
  • Motor power: four of eight. 410 kW for the Arc Sport, 373 kW for the Arc One, 220 kW for the GS22E, 125 kW for the Laguna 760.
  • Top speed: four of eight, and one of those four — the Mana 23 at 12 kn — is far below the others.

Where a figure is absent here, the builder does not publish it. We have not estimated one, and we will not: a range invented for a towing boat would be the most misleading number on the site.

A range figure would not settle it anyway

Suppose every one of the eight published a range tomorrow. It still would not answer the question a buyer is actually asking, because a marine range figure is quoted at a stated cruising speed with the boat unladen and nobody behind it. It describes a delivery trip, not a session.

This is the distinction worth carrying away from this page: range at a stated speed and endurance under tow are different quantities, and the first is not a conservative version of the second. A boat that covers a long distance at a steady cruise may support a short morning of pulling riders, and the published figure gives no reliable way to convert one into the other. The same applies to top speed, which for a wake boat is close to irrelevant — nobody tows at a hull's maximum.

If a builder ever publishes hours of towing, or laps of a course, that is the figure to read. None in this catalogue does.

The builders

Nautique

The Super Air Nautique GS22E is the electric model from an established towsports brand, at 6.7 m, with 124 kWh, 220 kW and a 37.5 kn top speed, from EUR 288,000. It is the highest published starting price of the eight. Nautique's catalogue is otherwise conventional, and this site lists electric models only, so the rest of its range does not appear here.

ARC Boats

Two boats, and between them the largest batteries and the most power of the eight listed here. The Arc Sport is 7.01 m with 225.5 kWh, 410 kW and 35 kn, from EUR 240,000. The Arc One is 7.3 m with 220 kWh, 373 kW and 12 passengers, from EUR 280,000; its top speed is not published.

The Arc Sport carries close to double the battery of the GS22E and close to double the motor power. Whether that translates into a longer session on the water is precisely what neither builder tells you, which is the point of the section above.

Marian Boats

Four of the eight models here are Marian's: the Laguna 760 at 7 m, and the M 800 Spyder, M 800-R and M 800, all at 7.9 m. Only the Laguna 760 has published power and speed figures — 125 kW and 28.6 kn. None of the four publishes a battery capacity, and only the M 800 Spyder has a published price, from EUR 194,000, and a published beam, 2.5 m.

Four models from one Austrian builder is the largest single presence in the category, and also the thinnest spec coverage in it. That is worth knowing before comparing them against the American boats, where the numbers are there to compare.

Rand Boats

The Mana 23 is 7 m with a published top speed of 12 kn and nothing else — no battery, no motor power, no price. A published 12 kn sits well below the GS22E's 37.5 kn, and the catalogue does not hold the figures to say more than that. Rand, like Nautique, also builds conventional boats; only its electric models are listed here.

The three on the sister site

Three towing-capable models exceed 8.53 m and are therefore on the sister site for larger boats. They can be named here but not linked, and they are the only models in this section with published ranges.

  • Vision Marine Technologies V30 (Canada), 9.14 m, beam 2.62 m, 43 kWh, 134 kW, 40 nm, 15 passengers, from EUR 129,000.
  • Enata Marine Foiler (United Arab Emirates), 9.75 m, 448 kW, 40 kn, 113 nm, 8 passengers, from EUR 990,000.

The V30 is the useful comparison: 43 kWh against the Arc Sport's 225.5 kWh, and yet it publishes a 40 nm range while the Arc Sport publishes none. That is not a contradiction in the boats — it is a difference in what each builder has chosen to state, and it is exactly why a figure should be read alongside who published it and under what conditions.
