Our take

What a buyer should know

A minimalist Portuguese electric runabout

The Faro5 is a 5 m electric day boat from Faro Boats of Lisbon — a clean, minimalist runabout for 5, designed in Portugal and moulded by the composite yard MAR Kayaks, better known as the Olympic kayak maker Nelo.

The numbers

Rather than a fixed drivetrain, the Faro5 is ordered from a range: motors from 6 to 30 kW, a choice of lithium batteries, and a top speed that runs from 6 to 22 knots depending on the setup. Faro publishes battery capacity in kWh and range in nautical miles for none of them — endurance is quoted only in hours, about 8 at a gentle 5 knots — so those figures are left out here rather than guessed. At 5 m by 2 m and drawing just 0.3 m, on a GRP hull with a deck in Cryptomeria wood or fibreglass. From €74,500, rising to €126,500 for the 30 kW wood-deck version.
