Two of the four come from one builder, Vision Marine Technologies, and only one of the four — the V24 — arrives with a battery, a motor power and a range beside its length. For the other three we hold little more than a length. We hold no top speed for any of the four, no charging time for any of the four, and no battery capacity for three of them. Those blanks are the honest state of the record, and we would rather show them than fill them with a figure that merely looks right.

Why the pontoon is a natural electric hull

Take the boat apart and its job description reads like a brief written for a battery. A pontoon rides on two or three sealed tubes rather than a planing hull, which makes it stable at rest and gives it a rectangular deck far wider than its length implies. It is not asked to plane, and a hull that never has to climb over its own bow wave never needs the enormous short-burst power that makes a fast petrol boat expensive to electrify.

One further qualification on the range: 40 nm is published without a stated speed, and a range without the speed it was measured at is an incomplete figure. We record what the builder gives us and no more.

Same builder, 6.1 m, and that is the whole of what we hold. No battery capacity, no motor power, no passenger count, no speed, no price. Listing it with nothing beside the length is deliberate: the boat exists and belongs in a catalogue of electric pontoons, and the empty fields are an accurate description of what its builder has published.

Solar pontoon boats: what we can and cannot say

If solar generation is the point of the purchase, this is not the page that can answer it.

What "pontoon hybrid boat" usually means

The phrase covers two different boats. One is a petrol pontoon with an electric trolling motor bolted on for quiet manoeuvring — a combustion boat with an electric accessory, and outside the scope of a catalogue restricted to electric and hybrid-electric propulsion. The other is a genuine hybrid drivetrain, where a generator and a battery both drive the propeller.
